The issues that caused Meta's social media platforms Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Threads to be down for about an hour and a half have been resolved and users are gradually regaining access to the apps.
At around 16:00 on Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of reports about outages and issues came in, according to data from DownDetector. The sites and apps were inaccessible and users were logged out.
"Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologise for any inconvenience," said Meta spokesperson Andy Stone on X.
The company did not give more information about what exactly the "technical issue" was, but it seemed to be worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of people took to social media platform X to signal they were experiencing issues. Meta's messaging app WhatsApp was not affected by the outage.
