Wednesday heralds another exceptionally mild and mostly sunny spring day. However, this long-awaited change won't last long.

Following morning mist in some areas, the sun has started making an appearance across most of Belgium. Throughout the day, temperatures will range from 14°C in the High Fens (in the south of Belgium) and at the coast, to 19°C in the Kempen, in the north of the country, according to the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).

However, high-lying cirrus clouds – typically delicate and wispy in appearance – will be present, with bigger clouds forming from midday. Despite the cloud cover, it will remain dry.

In the early hours of Thursday, low temperatures will oscillate between 5°C and 9°C. The northwestern regions will experience considerable cloud coverage, while other areas will see varying degrees of mist and sunnier weather conditions. As the day progresses, clouds will spread across the country. Maximum temperatures will hover around 10°C in the High Fens, 11°C at the coast, and between 13°C to 16°C elsewhere.

On Friday morning, there will be mist or low cloud cover particularly in the south of the country. Here, the weather will gradually improve, while the northern regions will remain predominantly overcast. The clouds will steadily move southwards through the afternoon. In the evening, a rain belt will move inland from the coast, across the rest of the country. Maximum temperatures will be between 11°C and 14°C.

There will be a wet start to the weekend, as on Saturday morning some areas may still see the tail-end of this rain band, especially the far southeast of the country.

However, other regions will enjoy clear skies. But the weather will soon become changeable with intermittent bright spells and scattered showers. It will also turn cooler, with temperatures ranging from 6°C to 11°C. Some light snow may even fall in the south. Sunday's weather will also vary.
