France will take “targeted” measures in case of a second coronavirus wave, new French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Wednesday.
"We are not going to carry out a possible reconfinement as we did in March," Castex told BFM TV.
"Absolute containment has terrible consequences - human and economic,” so measures must be targeted in case of a second wave, for which France must be prepared according to Castex. "We would not economically and socially bear an absolute and generalised reconfinement as we have experienced," he said.

Castex also said that he would visit French Guiana on Sunday, a French overseas department bordering Brazil, which is particularly affected by the epidemic. “It’s going badly” there, Castex acknowledged.
More than 130 reserve health workers have already arrived to reinforce health workers in French Guiana and are "operational in the various Guyanese medical structures".
The coronavirus has caused nearly 30,000 deaths in France, which has experienced a strict lockdown between March and May.
Since May, the health situation has been improving, but some European regions such as Catalonia have been forced to go back into confinement due to a new outbreak of the virus.
