With the start of the festive season, an official proclamation has been made by the legendary figure of the hour:

“There are no naughty children this year,” said Sinterklaas.

The seasonal saint was warmly welcomed by Antwerp Mayor Bart De Wever and the Flemish singer Bart Peeters as he arrived by steamer on Saturday. “The Holy One is welcome here and we can see it with the many children who are among us,” said De Wever.

Sinterklaas is a holiday figure still uniquely celebrated in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg on 6 December every year. He is said to visit every house on the night before to leave presents and candy for children who have been good during the past year.

The saint and his companions then paraded to the MAS museum receiving letters and drawings from children along the way.
