The judge in charge of the investigation of the Buizingen train accident, which killed 19 people on February 15th, 2010, has decided to charge SNCB and Infrabel. The two companies revealed this information in a statement and also stated that this indictment is a “predictable and expected step of the judicial process” but not indicative of the position taken by the prosecutor or the remainder of the proceedings. In the current state of the investigation, the judge found that there is evidence proving that both companies were at fault but did not however disclose the reasons behind his decision.
SNCB and Infrabel add that they will “cooperate fully” with the investigation and that they intend to reserve their arguments for the court.
