The Federal Prosecutor’s office expressed its regret the press covered the escape of 2 men suspected of preparing a terrorist attack in Belgium. According to articles in De Standaard, Het Nieuwsblad and Het Belang van Limburg a ‘wanted’ notice for the 2 suspects was published on Monday in the Spanish press: Abdelmounaim Haddad (21 years old) and Zaid Koullis (18 years old).

On Tuesday, the response from the Federal Prosecutor’s office was “no comment”.  Abdelmounaim Haddad apparently has Belgian citizenship and Zaid Koullis apparently has a Dutch passport.  It appears they fled after the police raid in Verviers last Thursday.

Flemish press has published that French security services were able to establish that, after they went on the run, the two men transited via Paris for a couple of hours. The French security services apparently warned their Spanish counterparts that the two suspects might use Madrid as a stepping stone to get to Yemen or Saudi Arabia.
