Extra vigilance on the Walloon road network was called for on Wednesday, due to the latest weather forecasts, said the Service Public de Wallonie (SPW) in a press release. The decision was taken by the Cell for Road Action (Cellule d’Action Routière, CAR), which is made up of the Walloon Regional Crisis Centre (Centre Régionale de crise de Wallonie, CRC-W), the Perex Centre and Federal traffic police.

According to weather forecasts, small wintery showers are expected on Wednesday evening. They are forecast during the first half of the night in the high areas of Ardennes, and ice sheets could form in the second half of the night. This is particularly probable south of the Sambre and Meuse corridor. Wintery showers are also expected on Thursday.

“Vigilance is high, and the situation on the Walloon road network is being regularly monitored to make sure all the necessary precautions are taken”, said the SWP. “All the conventional means, staff and equipment available to the Service Public Wallonie (SPW) are being used to insure roads users’ safety as much as possible, and maintain good driving conditions on the regional network”.

Road users are advised to be careful and vigilant. They can check road conditions on the sites trafiroutes.wallonie.be or www.inforoutes.be.
