Over the course of the last few weeks, the Leuven justice department has dismantled a prolific international band trafficking heroin and cocaine. Fifteen people were arrested, of which 10 were then placed under arrest. Raids in the Brussels and Louvain regions led to the discovery of a kilo of heroin and half a kilo of cocaine, plus equipment for the drugs' preparation and packaging and some counterfeit travel documents and ID, announced Louvain Public Prosecutor's office. Trafficking was suspected early in 2014 as a result of various investigations by Leuven justice department. It appears this is an international organisation importing and exporting cocaine and heroin on a large scale and in a highly structured way. The investigation began on September 2nd, 2014 by precisely locating the various members in the ring who used "mules", people who carry the drugs across the border in small packets they have swallowed.
11 different addresses in the Louvain and Brussels regions were raided on February 2nd and 5th, 2015. Most of the members of the drugs ring seemed to reside in Brussels but are all from Central Africa, more specifically Tanzania, Somalia , Rwanda and Burundi. Three of them have Belgian nationality and one other individual had Dutch ID.
