During an interview with the daily paper La Dernière Heure, Prince Laurent opened up. He talked about two of his unknown passions, the Arab language and death.
La Dernière Heure says it is a truthful interview which contains exclusive revelations by the youngest member of the royal family. Albert and Paola’s son reveals his fascination with the Arab world, in particular its language: “Arab is an extremely rich language. I learned to read Arab some time ago without understanding it. What is most interesting about this language, and what I am passionate about, is that once you learn Arab you know peoples’ mentality.”

Further down in the article, he adds that he would like his children to learn the language: “This language has made an impression on me. That’s why I wanted, and still want, our children to learn it”.

Prince Laurent put end to a rumour saying he had converted to Islam: “no, I have not converted”, he says.

The King’s brother also referred to another of his very surprising interests: his passion for death. He said he is not scared of death, despite almost dying a year ago when he fell into a coma due to serious lung problems. While speaking to the DH, he said he had communicated with his spiritual fathers: “I have two spiritual fathers that I love immensely, I cannot name them. I speak to them almost every day. I would suggest you study and read up on the millions of people in the world, whether they be catholic, Muslim, atheist or other, who have experienced the same as me. I have been talking to the dead for a long time”.

Prince Laurent is convinced he will join his “spiritual fathers” in the afterlife one day.
