Brussels Airlines sides with European Commission against BSCA

L'Echo and Le Soir newspapers reported on Friday that Belgium's leading airline, Brussels Airlines, based at Brussels Airport, has asked the European Union Court to intervene "in support of the conclusions drawn by the Commission" against the regional subsidies Charleroi Airport (BSCA) has received. Brussels Airlines believes it has been adversely affected by the subsidies that create "a significant competitive imbalance".  Last October, the Commission ruled that BSCA should pay a yearly fee of 15 million euros to Sowaer, owner of the Walloon infrastructure. The decision was considered retroactive to April 4th, 2014 and aims to undermine the effects of certain regional measures that were considered illegal, said L'Echo.

BSCA appealed against the decision, but Brussels Airlines has decided to intervene in support of the European Commission.
