Belgians still love their country. This is shown in a study published by the Catholic University of Louvain. The University has performed opinion studies on whether people feel they belong to the country and regions since 1979. They show that people have identified with Belgium more over the last 15 years. This is true for the two linguistic communities, Le Soir reported on Tuesday. In Flanders, 50% of the people asked identified as Belgian first in 2014. That’s 5% more than in 1991. This feeling is stronger within the population than within the Flemish elite.

65% of Walloons asked identified as Belgians first. The authors of the study also say that Walloons are little bothered about the Walloon region and the Brussels-Wallonia Federation.
