In early July, a road user in Antwerp filmed a police van overtaking a line of cars by pulling onto, and driving on, a grassy central reservation. The driver of the police van was reported to his hierarchy, according to the Antwerp local police. No intervention warranted such behaviour. No specific disciplinary action has been taken against the agent although he was sanctioned via the bonus/penalty system the local police work within. Any further loss of points may result in him having to follow specific courses or in a temporary driving ban.
Following the release of the video in question on Twitter, local police announced an investigation would be launched to identify the offending driver. However, the driver voluntarily held his hands up, police said.
