The federal government decided to apply VAT of 21% to cosmetic surgery procedures in last October’s budget. The VAT should have been put in place in July 2015, but it still hasn’t. It might not even come into force next January, De Tijd and L’Echo said on Wednesday.
“The technical conception of this legislation is not easy”, says the cabinet of Finance Minister Johan Van Overtveldt (New Flemish Alliance). It is difficult to distinguish between purely cosmetic operations and repair operations. The Minister’s cabinet has decided to continue discussing the VAT while looking at other options.
