Asylum seekers in Belgium: one in three is under 18

Nearly half of all asylum seekers currently in Belgium are families, and one in three is under 18, according to Fedasil figures reported in the daily De Morgen. At the current time, there are 19,117 asylum seekers in Belgium. 5% are under-18s travelling alone, around 1,000 children and teenagers that require extra support. Only 38% of the asylum seekers are men travelling alone, and about 50% are families.
