Paris attacks – Salah Abdeslam was maybe wearing an explosives belt when he returned to Belgium

Hamza Attouh, one of the men that drove Salah Abdeslam from Paris to Brussels just after the attacks, has given a new statement to investigators. This was revealed by his lawyer Carine Couquelet, and reported by several French-language newspapers. He has admitted that Salah Abdeslam was behaving in a threatening manner, and “was maybe carrying explosives”.

Salah Abdeslam, who is on the run, was driven to Laeken just after the attacks in Paris on the 13th of November. Hamza Attouh, one of the men, and the second driver have claimed they knew nothing about the attacks. But he admitted to investigators that his passenger was annoyed and behaving in a threatening manner, his lawyer said.

“He explained that this person was very threatening, and quite worked up”, Mrs Couquelet told a RTBF journalist. “He was not armed, but he may have been carrying explosives that he (Attouh) didn’t see”. Salah Abdeslam said he was ready “to blow himself up”.
