Over the last few weeks, around 23,000 Belgians have not been offered the simplified tax form they were allowed. They got a classic paper form in their letterbox instead. The people concerned will not get a letter to inform them of the situation.
“Everybody has to fill in a tax form, including those offered a simplified version or who should have got one”, the spokesman for the SPF Finances said. “But these people don’t get a reminder letter or a sanction, because we already have their data and we can calculate their tax from that”, he said.
Since the 6th of May, 2.3 million offers of a simplified tax form have been sent out. Next year, a new procedure will be put in place to avoid mistakes.
