    More jobs in the hotel and catering industry despite electronic check-outs

    The number of jobs recorded in the hotel and catering industry increased by 2.2% during the first three months of this year, compared to the same period in 2015. This is reported today (Monday) in Het Laatste Nieuws and De Morgen, on the basis of data from National Office for Social Security.

    According to figures released from the Office, 126,004 individuals were working in the hotel and catering trade in the first quarter of 2016, compared to 123,334 a year earlier.

    Going further back, this compares to 120,902 at the beginning of 2014.

    Flexi-jobs are also widespread.

    Some 20,000 individuals, within some 5,439 establishments, have undertaken a job in this sector.

    This emerges from data obtained from Secretary of State for the Fight against Social Security, Philippe De Backer.

    In total, there has been a boost of 2.2% in the proportion of new employees, within the sector.
