On Friday the euro reached its highest level against the US dollar since December 2014, at $1.2555. During the past week, its value increased by 3 cents. Although a strong euro is a positive aspect for tourists travelling outside of Europe, it serves to drain the eurozone economy. Products from European exporting countries are currently costing more.
The US dollar had started to recover in value on Wednesday, shortly after the publication of data showing a more marked increase than expected in consumer prices in the United States during January. The dollar value then changed tack, with a sharp decline.
