Charleroi City Council launches study to accommodate travellers in Gosselies

Charleroi City Council is to enter into a service contract for the completion of a feasibility study started as part of selecting an appropriate travellers’ site. The operator who is accepted must supply additional information around the nature of the soil and the stability of the piece of land in Gosselies, which is envisaged to become a travellers’ site.

In 2016, Charleroi City Council had voiced its intention to open a travellers’ site. The piece of land in Gosselies, formerly used for industrial activity but restored since then for other potential land uses, seemed an attractive option, particularly owing to its location in the vicinity of the E42 and the A54.

Moreover, for some months now, Charleroi City Council has had a new post within its organisation - a Travellers’ Referral Officer - whose remit is to facilitate contacts for travellers.
