Newborn baby found in paper bag in Antwerp apartment building

A newborn child was found in the centre of Antwerp on Tuesday afternoon in the entrance hall of an apartment building, according to reports. The cleaning lady immediately called emergency services. She played a crucial role in this story, said Willem Migom of Antwerp police.

The baby was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is doing fine. The new-born was likely born on either Monday or Tuesday. The baby will be taken care of in a suitable institution until a mother or father presents itself, or a foster family is found.

The investigation into the identity of the boy's parents is understood to still be ongoing. Police are seeking CCTV footage and witnesses.
