Large-scale police operation ongoing across Belgium

A large-scale police operation is ongoing across Belgium, mainly in the Brussels and Charleroi regions, where joint police forces are reportedly conducting raids in caravan camping lots. Joint federal police groups participating in the operation are attempting to locate members of an organised trafficking group, according to local media reports.

Authorities have been investigating for the past 20 years, and the operation is being carried out by over a thousand federal agents led by the Brussels unit, with support from Mons, Charleroi and Namur investigators.

A federal police helicopter and drones were also spotted over the searched areas, and members of the French gendarmerie provided support in areas near the border with France.

Around a dozen, suspects are wanted concerning the theft and fraudulent online sale of hundreds of Belgian vehicles, according to local media reports, and police have so far detained 30 individuals.
