As part of the investigation into the disappearance of a 13-year-old Indian boy on Saturday evening in Ixelles, police are checking the young man's telephone history in the hope of finding him.
"According to witnesses, the boy made a lot of phone calls on Saturday evening," said Brussels public prosecutor Denis Goeman.
The 13-year-old Malik Shorya is an Indian student who was in Brussels during a school trip through Europe. On Saturday evening the group went for dinner in an Indian restaurant on the Adolphe Buyllaan in Ixelles. When the group returned to the hotel, the accompanying teacher noticed that Malik had disappeared.
"According to witnesses, the boy made a lot of phone calls at the restaurant," says the public prosecutor's spokesman. "When he left the restaurant he hung around, but since then there has been no trace of him. The police are now carrying out a telephone investigation. It is still unclear whether the young man had contact with his family in India or with other people."
On Sunday, the Public Prosecutor's Office and Child Focus had already issued an investigation report for the disappearance, which was considered to be alarming.
Malik is about 1.55 meters tall, lean built and has black short hair. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing Adidas blue training pants, a brown jacket, a brown T-shirt and black sports shoes. Tips can be shared on the toll-free number 0800/30.300 or via Child Focus on the number 116.000.
