The 30th May marks Ascension day in Belgium, which means many employees get to spend it away from the office, leaving shops and services closed down for the day.

To avoid surprises, here is what will be open and closed in Brussels over the holiday.

For supermarkets, the main Delhaize stores will be closed, but Shop'n'Go and Proxy stores will be mainly open. In the Brussels Region, 52 Delhaize stores are opening this Thursday. As for Carrefour, 86 Market and Express stores will be open.

The Colruyt and Okay brands will be closed this Thursday. Various local shops can also open their doors, according to the wishes of the independent owners of these shops.

The main shopping centres in the region will not open their doors either: City 2, Docks Bruxsel (only White Cinema will be open), Woluwe Shopping Center, Basilix or Westland Shopping will remain closed. As well as the Ikea stores in Anderlecht and Zaventem. They will reopen this Friday.

Finally, pharmacies are closed this Thursday, but urgent cases can contact local on-call pharmacies. Banks will be closed on Thursday and Friday and will follow their normal schedule on Saturday.
