Several ready-made chicken-based meals sold at a number of Belgian supermarkets have been recalled over concerns they may be infected with Listeria monocytogenes, the Belgian food safety authority announced Thursday.

Carrefour’s Italian chicken, Spar’s Mexican chicken and a meal sold under the name “Chickies Mexicana” by Deli Melo, Match and Smatch supermarket chains are the five meals impacted by the recall.

The Belgian Agency for Food-Chain Safety (AFSCA) said on Twitter that the products were being recalled from the shop’s stalls.

The five chicken products are sold under each supermarket’s own brand but are fabricated by Goumanisto.

Consumers are asked to bring the products, which have different sell-by dates and lot numbers, back to the stores.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria which can cause listeria, a serious infection which can cause vomiting, high fever, headaches and flu-like symptoms.
