The Interior Department on Friday reactivated the 1722 hotline, used for non-emergency interventions.

The reactivation, at 11:15 AM, followed the yellow alert for stormy winds issued on Thursday by the Royal Meteorological Institute. Gusts of up to 80 km/hour are expected between Friday afternoon and Saturday at noon.

The 1722 number has been reintroduced to reduce the pressure on the 112 line, for cases in which there is no vital alert but the intervention of the fire service is still required. The Interior Department activates it once there is a yellow alert for violent winds.

The number had already been activated between 10:00 AM on Tuesday and 16:00 on Thursday due to the storms throughout the country. During that period, almost 10,500 calls to the 1722 number were registered.
