The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into a possible attempted abduction after reports of an adult luring a child with sweets near a school in Schaerbeek.
The events reportedly occurred on Thursday on Rue Paul Hymans in the municipality of Schaerbeek, not far from the municipal primary school no. 16, Bruzz reports. The exact facts are still under consideration, and the child has been interviewed.
“It is not very clear at the moment. We are waiting for analyses of the security cameras,” Denis Goeman, spokesman for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office told DH.
A letter has been sent to parents and children of the neighbouring school the Institut Sainte-Marie in Evere. In it, the director calls for no panic, but for the children to travel home accompanied by a friend. It also warns not to talk to strangers.
