In the Ardennes, in the south of Belgium, the first snow fell on Tuesday, and more has been predicted for the rest of the week. According to the weather forecasts, a lot of snow is to be expected in the higher altitude areas on Friday.
The temperatures in Flanders will fall to 2 degrees on Friday, and there is a possibility that a combination of rain and melting snow will fall, according to the Royal Meteorological Institute and NoodweerBenelux, a weather forecast that monitors exceptional weather circumstances in Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.
"Friday will be a very fresh day," said weatherman Frank Deboosere, reports Het Nieuwsblad. "With a lot of rain in the morning and possibly also melting snow in the centre of the country," he added.
"Various weather models calculate a precipitation zone that is set up from the south to Belgium. That would result in a closed snow cover of a few centimetres in the Ardennes,"NoodweerBenelux predicted. "In the rest of Belgium it might be a mixture of rain and melting snow as the lower 1,000 metres of the air column will be just a little too hot for the snow to last," the forecaster added.
