Every recognised Flemish animal shelter will receive €3,000 from the Flemish government if registers all animals available for adoption on a central site.

This is the first time that the Flemish government will put aside money for animal shelters.

"We are giving animal shelters a little financial support and we are ensuring that all shelter animals from all over Flanders will be united on one website," said Ben Weyts, Flemish Minister for Animal Welfare, reports De Standaard.

The only conditions are that all animals are registered on the platform www.adopteereendier.be (only in Dutch), and that the shelters use the Animal Shelter management programme.

Recognised shelters who choose to use the platform before 30 April 2020, and put the Animal Shelter asylum management programme in use at the same time, will receive a one-off payment of €3,000. "Thay way, the shelters will be able to further professionalise their operations and even more Flemish people will be able to find their way to shelters to adopt an animal," said Weyts.

Weyts' aim is to establish a structural support system for all animal over the course of 2020, for which he will have a budget of €2 million, to be distributed according to the needs of the shelters, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.
