New collective labour agreement for Flemish education sector signed

The Flemish Government, unions and employers’ organisations on Friday signed a new collective labour agreement for the education sector in Flanders. Unions and employers all pledged to respect the agreement faithfully, Flemish Education Minister Hilde Crevits (CD&V), said.

The agreement was reached last month and officially signed on Friday. It includes salary increases for 175,000 teachers and school staff, and measures improving the situation of new and temporary teachers.

The text also aims to make teaching more attractive.

“We’ll need many teachers in the next few years, between 5,000 and 7,000 a year,” Minister Crevits said.
