Following Eric Parmentier’s lead last week, Jeremy Wintgens and Mutlu Kizilaslan have lodged an appeal to the Court of Cassation (the highest court of appeal), confirmed on Wednesday the attorney for one of the men convicted of the homophobic murder of Ihsane Jarfi. The 3 accused men were convicted of murder and will now probably appeal the Assizes Court decision. Only Jonathan Lekeu, guilty of murder, will not appeal. Eric Parmentier (30), Jeremy Wintgens (30), and Mutlu Kizilaslan (30) were sentenced to life imprisonment after committing the homophobic murder of Ihsane Jarfi on the night of April 22nd, 2012.
After the sentencing they had up to 15 days to sign the appeal papers. Eric Parmentier’s attorney signed them on Friday whilst the attorneys for Jeremy Wintgens and Mutlu Kizilaslan waited until the last day to open the appeal procedure on Wednesday.
“Mutlu Kizilaslan is filing an appeal with the Court of Cassation for 2 reasons. Firstly, there was an erroneous reasoning in the judgment as the wrong report was used. And secondly, in our opinion the motivation for the accusation of premeditation is not demonstrated in the case of Mutlu Kizilaslan,” explained attorney Philippe Moureau.
Jonathan Lekeu (25), guilty of a homophobic murder, will not appeal, clarified his attorney.
