A suspect has been remanded in custody as part of the inquest into the fire at the Anderlecht synagogue. The fire happened back in September. The man, aged 29, was implicated due to a finger print found at the scene, La Dernière Heure reported on Tuesday. “The individual was picked up for being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The incident happened in the rue Pélican on Sunday, at around 7.25am”, explains Ilse Van de Keere, the spokesman for Brussels police.
This routine booking allowed police to realize the man was suspect in the fire at the synagogue.
Handed over to the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was placed under arrest. Already known to police for theft, he was charged with arson at a building lived in at night.
