Alleged perpetrators of lethal blows on Gaetan Lulendo released

The 3 men who admitted hitting Gaetan Lulendo in Brussels on December 6th, 2014, an attack which led to the death of the 30-year-old, were released under strict conditions by the investigating judge on Monday. In particular, they are banned from going to cafes, drinking alcohol, and going out at night. They must go back to work and start therapy sessions, pointed out the prosecutor’s office in Brussels. Brussels Council Chamber ruled last Wednesday that the 3 men should be released under these conditions. The prosecutor appealed that ruling but the investigating judge released them in the meantime on Monday. According to the men’s attorneys, Gaetan Lulendo had provoked their clients.

On the night in question, the 3 suspects had drunk over 4 litres of a cocktail made with vodka, raspberry liqueur and lemon liqueur. Gaetan Lulendo approached Gil V.E. in front of a snack bar and aggressively asked first for a cigarette, then for money. According to the attorneys, he then proceeded to put his drink down and take his jacket off, and a fight broke out.

They also point out that the deceased was not homeless as previously reported, and that he was a known member of an urban gang.
