Asma N., a 48-year-old prostitute, was appealing a judgement by default sentencing her to 2 years in prison and a 45,170 euro fine. The new sentence is lighter – one year imprisonment and 23,420 euros to pay back to the plaintiff, a former client. Asma N. is convicted for breach of trust. “She is not Pretty Woman, and my client is not Richard Gere,” said Ms. Sterchelle, the accuser’s attorney. Her client, a 33-year-old man, fell in love with the prostitute. “She would call him ‘love’ and ‘baby’ but never once told him their relationship was purely professional. The man became handicapped after a car accident in 2009. He was paying Asma N. with the compensation from his accident. The prostitute seduced him by pretending to be ill and saying she had no healthcare.”
According to investigators, he ended up giving her 45,170 euros, most of which was used to pay for her services which she billed 150 euros/hour and 400 euros/night. Asma N.’s attorney asked the court to take into account his client’s precarious financial situation, after her 22-year-old son died of a long illness. The court sentenced her to remain in prison in Mons where she has been incarcerated since the first trial.
