Two Belgians expatriated to France for kidnapping a mother and her baby

Two Belgians brothers, who were arrested in Brussels, were handed over to French authorities at the request of the Meaux Prosecutor’s office. This falls under the European arrest warrants for kidnappings and imprisonments, La  Dernière Heure reported on Sunday. The brothers M. and R. are suspected of kidnapping a Belgian woman, her ten month old baby, and a Romanian man from Corbeil-Essonnes (south-east Paris) on the 22nd of February. They kidnapped the man by threatening him with a gun and posing as police officers.

They tracked the woman for six weeks. She had escaped her violent husband at the start of January. After fleeing to Meaux with her baby, she was being looked after by an association for beaten wives.

The case is being handled in Brussels by Judge Michel Claise. In the double expatriation request, the French justice department says that the two Belgians, from Grimbergen, could get life in prison.

The mother and child were found safe and sound.
