A suspected Algerian jihadist wanted by Belgian authorities was arrested at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport on Tuesday, the federal Prosecutor’s office has said. This confirms information that appeared in the Spanish media. The suspect, Karim O, went to Syria to fight with the Islamic State terrorist group, the Prosecutor’s office said. A European arrest warrant for him was issued by a judge in Liège. The suspect was arrested at the Catalan El Prat Airport at around 11.45pm on Tuesday. He had just come from Hamburg, and was trying to get to Algeria after a stopover in Madrid. French authorities were also looking for him, as he married a minor in January 2015. He also went to Algeria, despite being banned from leaving the country.
