Two senior politicians will present King Philippe with an initial report on the state of the consultations to form a new federal government on Thursday.

Didier Reynders and Johan Vande Lanotte, appointed last week as "royal informants," are expected to present their initial findings to the Belgian monarch at around 14:00 this afternoon.

Reynders and Vande Lanotte were instructed last week to carry out consultations with political party leaders and representatives of other groups and institutions in order to lay out a clear path for the formation of a new federal government.

They have so far met with representatives of Groen and sp.a, the country's Dutch-speaking green and socialist parties, as well as with leaders of the Christian Democrat cdH party.

After meeting with King Philippe, they are expected to give a press conference about the state of the consultations.
