Investigation launched into stabbing in Anderlecht

The Brussels public prosecutor has opened an investigation into an attack in Anderlecht on Monday and in which a 32-year-old woman was seriously injured. The woman was taking her three children to school when she was stabbed on Chaussée de Ninove, according to reports. She sustained a deep stab wound in the abdomen and was taken to the hospital in a critical condition.

On Wednesday afternoon the public prosecutor's office announced that the woman's life was no longer in danger and that she had left the intensive care unit.

"In the meantime, she has been questioned, but in the interest of the investigation we will not release any further information for the time being", says Stéphanie Lagasse, spokeswoman for the Brussels public prosecutor's office, according to Bruzz.

The prosecutor has also made clear that the reasons for the crime were still unknown. "There are various avenues being explored. Is it an act to be placed in a family context, an isolated act of violence or an act committed for a racist reason? The police are still investigating," said the prosecutor.
