At least 11 new frescoes inspired by the works of Pieter Bruegel The Elder will decorate the Brussels streets this summer, honouring the 450th anniversary of the death of the artist.
The works will be found along the "street art trail" from mid-June.
The route travels through the heart of Brussels and passes iconic locations and institutions that hold a clear connection to Bruegel. The trail is a collaboration between visit.brussels and Farm Prod, a collective of visual artists working together with famous invited artists to paint Bruegel in a different light.
The first work along the route can already be seen in the rue Haute, near the Porte de Hal. It is a fresco by the French artist Lazoo, and is inspired by Breugel's "Wedding Dance in the Open Air".

Born in or around Breda, Bruegel spent the biggest part of his life in Brussels and is buried there as well. He painted around two-thirds of his work in Belgium capital, and close to the Monts des Arts lived his most influential clients.
Most of his oeuvre is still found there: the Royal Museum of Fine Arts has a large collection of his paintings and the Royal Library has over 90 of his etchings.
