Today, the employers use 2008 as the reference year to assert a drop in production or a reduction in turnover of 10% in order to justify economic unemployment for their employees. This will no longer necessarily have to be the case, but may be one of the two calendar years preceding the application. The Council of Ministers has approved this draft royal decree on Friday.
Kris Peeters, Minister of Economy and Employment, explains this decision: “The reference year – 2008 – is too old and takes too little account of recent developments in companies’ production. The government has therefore decided to respond positively to the request from the social partners in the Group of Ten.”
