Alibaba will come to Belgium in May

Alibaba, the group that manages the largest international sales website, will come to Brussels in May. This was reported by the Echo on Saturday. The Chinese company plans to take on around a hundred people.

The Echo says Jack Ma, the billionaire at the head of the company, met King Philippe at the international economy forum Davos last January. Mr Ma told King Philippe he was planning to set up an branch in Belgium, which would employ around a hundred people. These employees will be sent to China for a year, to learn about the Chinese market and Chinese tastes for edible and luxury products.

The Brussels branch of Alibaba is expected to open in May. It will also allow the installation of Alipay, the group’s payment system for smartphones, which Chinese tourists in Europe can use. The “Alibaba Embassy” will also be the Belgian base for the European platform that Alibaba plans to set up.
