    Eurozone: employment has risen by 0.3% in Q3

    The number of employed persons has increased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the UE28 zone in the third quarter of 2015, compared to the previous quarter, according to national accounts estimates published on Tuesday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Compared with the same quarter of 2014, employment has risen by 1.1% in both the euro area and the UE28 zone, mentions Eurostat. They estimate that 229.8 million men and women were employed in the UE28 zone in the third quarter of 2015, of which 151.5 million live in the euro area.

    Among the Member States – for which data are available – Estonia (+ 2.1%), Hungary (+ 0.8%), Ireland, Spain, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom (+ 0.6% each) all recorded the highest growth rates in the 3rd quarter, while decreases were recorded in Croatia (-0.6%), Portugal (-0.5%) and Malta (-0.3%).

    In Belgium, the employment rate has increased by 0.1% since the second quarter and by 0.7% year on year.
