Housing prices up 4.1% in the eurozone

Housing prices were up 4.1% in the eurozone in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the same period in 2015, the European Statistical Office Eurostat said on Friday. The increase is 4.7% across the EU. In Belgium, the increase is more moderate, at 2.6%.

The highest annual increases in housing prices in the fourth quarter of 2016 were recorded in the Czech Republic (+ 11.0%), Hungary (+ 9.7%) and Lithuania (+ 9.5%), while prices remained virtually unchanged in Italy (+ 0.1%). In Belgium, the increase was 2.6% in the fourth quarter of 2016. But compared with the third quarter, prices fell by 0.4%.
