A resolutely motivated and future-focused Vincent Kompany spoke to the press at Hampden Park on Friday evening, after the Red Devil’s big 4-0 victory over Scotland in the friendlies. “We are all still really motivated. The World Cup was not the end, it was just one challenge for the group,” the Manchester City central defender stated.
Vincent Kompany has been an international player since February 2004, when he was just 17 years and 10 months old. “Vince the Prince” has not lost one ounce of his determination. “We didn’t come here to relax. We have no time to lose, we want to win all our matches,” he told his audience.
“The general feeling after this victory is a very positive one. We really have the impression that we are a solid team on top form, but we have to review our performances every day if we want to keep this level up”, Kompany warned.
The 32-year-old Belgian says the Scottish defensive mistakes were the result of the way Belgium was playing. “That was part of our plan, we pressed them and got the ball back quickly. In the second half, we showed how we were enormously focused in front of the goal. At the end of the day we dominated the entire match, it was a good performance,” Kompany said. He then spoke about the League of Nations, which for Belgium starts on Tuesday evening when they play Iceland in Reykjavik. “There’s a trophy to be had, I want to win it,” he quipped with a smile.
