Belgian photographer killed in Brazil

The Belgian photographer Ben Lievens has been found dead in Rio de Janeiro, announced VTM on Tuesday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the man died violently and that an investigation is currently underway. Ben Lievens moved to Brazil 10 years and opened a bed and breakfast there.  He married a Brazilian national and they had a son together. His wife and child were not in the family home when the photographer died.

Ben Lievens practiced his art in all four corners of the world, including the most dangerous ones, photographing child soldiers in Africa, travelling into northern Iraq with the Kurds and regularly delving into Brazilian slums. His work was particularly present in Flemish magazines.
