    Charles Michel congratulates new American President who he hopes will be a “unifying force”

    The Prime Minister, Charles Michel, congratulated the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, on getting the White House. Trump is now assured of becoming the 45th President of the United States. “This election was exceptional and the American people have spoken,” the Prime Minister noted in a communiqué.

    Michel went on, “I wish you every success in the exercise of this high-level office. May you be a unifying President and open to respectful dialogue. I hope that Belgium and the United States will continue to defend their common values, such as freedom and tolerance.”

    The road ahead will have its challenges, the Prime Minister stressed, starting with the ‘war on terror’ radicalism and climate change…Citizen expectations are exceedingly high.”

    Charles Michel pleaded “more than ever“ for a “European project which is both robust and convincing.”

    He concluded, “I hope that you will continue to support the European project, guaranteeing us security within the NATO framework.
