Preparations are underway in Ghent for the start of the city’s annual festival, the ‘Gentse Feesten’, this Friday.
Final stages of the festival set-up are under way, and large supplies of drinks are stocked for the hundreds of thousands of expected visitors.
Typically, the festival liven up Ghent’s summer over a ten-day period. This Friday marks the event’s 53rd edition with the ceremonial handing over of a symbolic golden key on Friday.
The public can look forward to some 3,500 activities, including 1,800 free options.
The city has been encouraging organisers to also plan daytime events. This year, there are 2,419 activities set to begin before 6 pm, many of which are tailored for a young audience.
The festivities conclude on Sunday 28 July.
