The model of the newly renovated and enlarged Museum of Ancient Arts of the Province of Namur (TreM.a) was unveiled on Friday at a ceremony attended by Wallonia’s Heritage Minister Valérie De Bue, Belga News Agency reports.
The design, chosen unanimously out of five submissions to a European call for proposals, is the work of Baukunst, a Brussels-based firm.
Baukunst founder Adrien Verschuere designed the building with Barbara Van der Wee, a Belgian architect specialising in the restoration and rehabilitation of high-value historic buildings.
According to the draft project, the building’s area is to be increased from 1,500 to 3,750 square metres, in order to better showcase the TreM.a’s Middle Age and Renaissance collections.
Environmental improvements are also central to the project, which is budgeted at €20 million euros.

"The Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Wallonia Region and the Office of the General Commission for Tourism have already committed to providing €10 million," Jean-Marc Van Espen, president of the provincial college, explained.
Another €10 million needs to be raised in order to complete the project. “To this regard, we already have the support of the Pierre-François Tilmon Fund, managed by the Roi Baudouin Foundation,” he added. “We are looking for other private funding, and certain negotiations are already well advanced.”
The project is set to be completed by 2028, after which the scenography will be done. The upgraded museum is expected to be inaugurated in 2030.
