The Antwerp Diamond, Jewellery and Goldsmiths’ Museum (Diva) will reopen its doors on Friday after closing for a year for renovations.

A new permanent exhibition showing the different phases of production of a diamond jewel will be inaugurated, the institution said on Tuesday.

The new presentation of the museum’s collections, entitled ‘Diva, a Brilliant Story’ is spread over seven rooms. Visitors will be able to discover the latest techniques in jewellery production, such as urban mining (recovery of precious materials from used electrics), upcycling and diamond laboratories.

The ecology and ethics of diamond mining will be discussed, while explanations by experts, traders and designers are also an integral part of the new exhibition.

From 26 August to 8 October, enthusiasts will be able to discover the results of the Triennale de l’Argenterie, the most important international goldsmithing competition.

Jewellers Triin Kuuk from Estonia and Andreea Raluca Cojocaru from Romania will be in residence from early April, presenting their creations to visitors.

The museum was due to reopen last year but postponed its reopening due to rising energy costs.
