Concerns are growing about the well-being of Belgian singer Stromae after the artist cancelled six concerts in the past two weeks for health-related reasons.

The latest cancellations came just hours before the 38-year-old was set to perform the first of three gigs at the Zenith concert venue in Nantes on Wednesday.

"Stromae's state of health again does not allow him to perform the three concerts scheduled for this week at the Zenith in Nantes, from 29 to 31 March. We are therefore forced to cancel these three performances," Auguri Productions, which represents the Brussels-born singer, said in a statement.

In an interview with French media, Auguri Productions' Chief Operating Officer Olivier Wurth said: "I am not in a position to comment on the postponement of these concerts." Stromae himself has not yet commented on the cancellations.

The announcement followed the cancellation of three other concerts for "medical reasons" last week. Stromae is currently touring France to promote his album "Multitude", released in March last year.

Stromae, whose real name is Paul van Haver, only recently returned to performing after a lengthy absence caused by burnout and depression. His song "Hell" ("l'enfer"), the second single from "Multitude", talks explicitly about his earlier depression and suicidal thoughts.

Stromae's time away from the spotlight appears to have done nothing to dim his popularity in his home country: last year, he was named French-speaking Belgians' favourite male celebrity.
