An exhibition on impressionist painter Claude Monet will open at the Saint-Follain church in the city of Liège from Wednesday for the coming six months.

'Claude Monet: The Immersive Experience' is organised by the Brussels-based Exhibition Hub and has already taken place in some 30 cities worldwide. The organisation tends to use churches as locations to display the colourful projections.

"Explore some of the most compelling paintings by Claude Monet in a 360-degree digital art exhibit, and immerse yourself within the 20,000 square foot light and sound spectacular featuring two-storey projections," the organisation writes on its website.

The exhibitions also serve to breathe new life into abandoned places, such as the Liège church where services have not been held for at least two years.

The exhibition spreads over several rooms in the church and panels give visitors an insight into the painter's life and oeuvre. The impressionist movement is also discussed, as are reconstructions of his studio and the garden of Giverny, which was among Monet's greatest sources of inspiration.

Visitors are also invited to watch Monet's universe – set with panoramic projections – seated in deckchairs. More information can be found on the organisation's website.
